Proofs
The lithographer would print proofs to check the registration
and correct color groups. This type of label is usually not embossed
and will show a series of crosses or registration marks used to align
the paper to each stone. All proofs are rare since there were usually
only 4 to 6 pulled by the lithographer to check an entire run of thousands
of labels. Most desirable proofs have the color bar on the label but subject
matter and type are equally appealing - if you are lucky enough to find
a proof and the finished label, you really have something special.
